In the early 1950’s the St. Clair Shores youth football and cheer franchise was founded and fielded two teams, the Green Hornets (north end of S.C.S.) and the Black Knights (south end of S.C.S). In the mid 1950’s the Eastern Suburban Football League (ESFL) was founded, with the St. Clair Shores franchise being a founding member. Unfortunately, over time smaller enrollments led to the weakening of the St. Clair Shores franchise particularly affecting the south end Black Knights. The once mighty Black Knights were no longer viable and were folded in 1981 merging into the franchise, as it now exists today. To this day the Green Hornets Organization continues our proud history of providing a safe and fun environment for all kids ages six to thirteen to participate in the sports of football and cheerleading. When you join the St. Clair Shores Green Hornets family, this is what you will get: ~ Eight games with guaranteed playing time ~ Supplied equipment~ Game days on the weekends ~ Home games played at Lakeview, South Lake, and Lake Shore High Schools ~ Practices held at Kennedy Middle School ~ Experience that you can carry with you to the high school level
